Spring and Easter is on its way, and mixed media artists turn their minds to creating projects for the season.
Egg shapes are always favourites. This decorated egg started its life as a cheap plastic toy filled with children’s stickers.
It has been decorated with eggshell mosaic and embellished with fibres, pearls and ribbons.
In one picture, the egg (coyly named Egg-bert) is wearing a violet colored flower. In the other picture, Egg-bert is naked.
It’s so hard to choose an appropriate spring wardrobe!

The CD disk spins on the ruler, and the clock hands point to the words Reading, Riting, Rithmetic and Recess.

This piece of altered art started out as a cheap paper mask from the party store. The original mask was purple and some of that purple shows through the faux paper mache topping.
The mask is decorated with a fabric trim, a hand made floral centerpieces and black and white feathers.

Not an altered book, but a piece of altered art nonetheless, these old prescription spectacles have transitioned into a lacy lady’s bra. The name of this mixed media art project is Victoria’s Secret Spectacles.

It has possibilities for a Valentine’s Day art project.
With that in mind, I made a steampunk calendar for 2012. The calendar is a stand alone desktop calendar with an easel stand made from paper. Each of the six pages has a stamped calendar month with hand written dates. The calendar is wire bound using the Zutter Bind it All.
If you want to see the complete calendar, there is a video demonstration at Scrapping by Design
How about a Halloween craft project made from flattened toilet paper rolls? This Halloween themed mini album, made entirely from TP rolls, has a theme of “Trick or Treat at Hell’s Kitchen.
The five pages spoof Chef Demon Ramsay in a good hearted way, and introduce the various delights available at Hell’s Kitchen on Halloween.
The toilet paper rolls are flattened, painted black and then decorated with scrapbook papers and various embellishments.
The book is put together using paper hinges.
The front of the book is decorated with a flower cut from a beer can and with a decorated bottle cap. Each roll contains a tag that is dripping with Halloween Creepy Cloth.
